Example scored watchlist

This is a worked example of the beginner selection scorecard: the same names a beginner might follow, with StockFit and OptionsFit. It is not a live brokerage export and not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold anything.

Not financial advice

Scores are an operating draft (listing type, typical options liquidity, business familiarity). They are not a live bid/ask check. Confirm chains and fund facts yourself.

Real share counts, account dollars, and personal lots stay in a private operator file — not on GitHub Pages.

Shortlist rule used in the example

Use Rule
Own-for-years StockFit ≥ 2, then about 5–8 names, not eight copies of one theme
Options practice OptionsFit ≥ 2
Out Either score 0, or both scores ≤ 1

Canadian-listed ETFs in the example

Ticker StockFit OptionsFit Own-for-years? Options practice? Comment
XEQT 3 0 Core if you want global No CAD all-in-one equity; typically no U.S. options chain
VEQT 3 0 Alternate — not with XEQT or VFV No Similar; often heavier Canada weight
ZEQT 3 0 Alternate — not with XEQT or VFV No Similar; often lower published MER
XBAL 3 0 Only if you want bonds No Balanced stock/bond; replaces an all-equity core
XIC 2 0 Skip if the core is already a global all-in-one No Canada-only; not inside an S&P 500 ETF
VFV 2 0 Core if you want US large-cap only No S&P 500 in CAD; do not stack with an all-in-one

GOOGL 2 3 Options-first if core is S&P 500 Yes Same

NFLX 2 3 Options-first if core is S&P 500 Yes Same
SHOP 3 2–3 Satellite Yes (U.S. line for many CA brokers’ options) Canadian company; confirm listing
RY 3 2–3 Satellite if core is US-only Yes (U.S. line) Canadian bank; not in the S&P 500
CNR 3 2 Satellite if core is US-only Yes (U.S. CNI) Canadian railroad; confirm ticker

HOOD 1 2 Follow only Maybe Same
SOFI 1 1–2 Follow only Weak More speculative
AAL 1 1–2 No Weak Cyclical airline
IREN 0–1 1 No No (this example) Crypto-adjacent
NVTS 0 0–1 No No Small-cap; often a poor chain
NBIS 0 0–1 No No New/thin
HIMS 0–1 1 No No Speculative
ETHA 0 0 No No Crypto ETF
IBIT 0 0 No No Crypto ETF

Illustrative shortlists (still not advice)

Own-for-years (example shapes):

  • Global core: one all-in-one such as XEQT as ~60%; SHOP up to the ~15% cap; small slices of names not already huge inside that ETF.
  • US-index core with spread: VFV as ~40%; SHOP at the ~15% cap; a few non-S&P 500 companies (for example a Canadian bank, a railroad, a consumer name, one Asia ADR, one Europe ADR). Mega-caps already inside the S&P 500 stay options-first.

That is the core–satellite pattern with percents only.

Options practice (example): AAPL, AMZN, GOOGL, NVDA, NFLX, SHOP (U.S. line), TSM, SAP. Second tier after a live chain check: RY, CNI, PLTR, HOOD, NDAQ.
